93,649 New Yorkers were unable to vote in the 2016 general election because they registered after the 25-day deadline but before the 10-day constitutional deadline.

In most states, registering to vote is a prerequisite to actually voting. For NJ the law stipulates that all voters must register 30 days before election day. Unawareness of this requirement is one leading cause of the lowering rate of voters in the US.

be a citizen of the United States

be at least 17 years old (you must be 18 to vote)

be a resident of the State and county 30 days before the election

not serving a sentence of incarceration as the result of a conviction of any indictable offense under the laws of this or another state or of the United States
