Why Voters of the Future?

My name is Kaitlyn Fung, and I'm a senior at Northern Valley Old Tappan Regional High School. I created Voters of the Future to educate other high school seniors on their perhaps unknown ability to exercise their political voice in local and state-level politics.
After living through the period of increased social media activism during the pandemic, I found that although students were vocal online there was little real voting for concrete political action from students. I realized that this was because most students were unaware of the voting systems in Bergen County. This lack of civic knowledge inspired me to formulate both a digestible and comprehensive website for Bergen County teens who may be interested in registering to vote as they turn 18 in their senior year.
I believe American voter apathy is a dangerous sentiment rooted in a lack of youth civic education. With this lack of education, students are ill-equipped to take the proactive steps needed to properly engage with America's system of representative democracy.
With this website and accompanying school visits, I hope to help build a future of more civically engaged citizens as well as show teenagers the amount of political voice they really have.
